Paul Bunyan bootprints placed at Information Center

Visitors to the Pine River Information Center can now tread on giant Paul Bunyan-sized bootprints.

Pairs of 5-foot wide by 14-foot long concrete boot prints have been placed in Pine River, Pequot Lakes, Crosslake, Breezy Point, Jenkins and Ideal and Barclay townships - a Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway project.

Byway Association Chair Lynn Scharenbroich and former Pequot Lakes Mayor Cathy Malecha spearheaded the project.

The total cost to locate the bootprints in seven locations was $4,200. A Grand Casino-Mille Lacs donation of $3,360 enabled each city and township to pay $120 for a pair.

The design of the footprints was created to match the "100 H-sized" Paul Bunyan baby boots at the Pine River Information Center. Rickard & Sons constructed the boot prints at each site. A "Paul Bunyan was here" sign will be displayed near the concrete bootprints in Pine River - next to the fiberglass Paul Bunyan baby boots already on display.

Pine River's concrete bootprints have been reinforced so they can be picked up with a forklift and moved in the future, if necessary.
