The Jenkins City Council on Monday heard an audit report by city accountant Don Zierke of Miller-McDonald.
Zierke found that the city has a deficit of $1,277 remaining from Sunset Cinema's change of possession. The city discussed methods of paying that deficit and delayed the decision until a future meeting.
Zierke addressed the impact of former city clerk Julie Ohr's embezzlement of more than $55,000 from the city of Jenkins. He found that through insurance and restitution the city is recovering well from the incident. More restitution is forthcoming.
Zierke showed that the city underspent by $6,751 for the past year.
In other action, the council:
Agreed to defer interest on the Hildebran property until the property has been improved, rezoned and sold by the owner.
Addressed the implications of the post office closing. Jenkins residents will have the opportunity to change the "city" portion of their address to read Jenkins as opposed to Pequot Lakes or Pine River in order to maintain their identity. ZIP codes will remain the same.
Approved a motion to limit the number of people allowed per plot in the cemetery. Only four people will be allowed per plot versus the previous allowance of six.
Approved paying half of the cost for installation of an irrigation pipe for the Jenkins Community Garden that would be put in place under the road behind the Woodland Bank and the garden.
The project is estimated to cost about $300, the other half of which would be paid by the Woodland Bank.
