Ask ATOD

Okay, I know it's June and it's probably a nice day outside, so why don't you grab a chair on the porch or another nice comfy place to read the paper. Go ahead, I'll waitÉ.

Okay, have you ever heard of Responsible Beverage Server Training? ItÕs a short course which helps our friends and neighbors who are in the alcohol serving industry serve responsibly. It just so happens that I teach this course, can you believe the luck? During the course we discuss how to recognize a fake I.D., the laws for those under twenty-one, over twenty-one and for people who serve or sell alcohol. We discuss signs of intoxication, ways to "cut people off" and how alcohol compliance checks are done.

Businesses that send their staffs to us receive a security laminate verifier and magnifying glass (tools to help detect a fake I.D.). Since I am a Minnesota Department of Public Safety Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement Division Regional Trainer, participants who complete the two hour course receive a handy dandy certificate from the state. Some insurance companies offer reduced rates to businesses whose employees complete RBS training. Cost of the training is $20 a person.

We are offering trainings June 12 from noon to 2 p.m. and June 23 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Pine River-Backus Family Center. If you know of someone who owns or manages a business where alcohol is served or sold please let them know about this service. If someone is interested in registering for the course they should give me a call. Thanks for your help.
