PR-B students learn to ride bikes safely

Youth take home free bikes, helmets

Some PR-B Elementary students got more than an education last week.

Pine River Police Officer Chad Bouc and Cass County Sheriff's Deputy Gary Swanson talked with elementary students about bicycle safety Friday, May 30, and sent 22 lucky listeners home with free helmets or bicycles.

The officers engaged students in grade-appropriate question and answer sessions and quizzed them about the meanings of road and trail signs as well as rules of the road for bicyclists. Following the safety presentation, all elementary grades gathered in the elementary gymnasium to watch Bouc draw names in hopes they would be winners.

Tim Tanner donated the helmets while ALCO and Gardiners Hardware contributed bikes. Additional sponsors for the bike safety day included the Pine River Police Department, Pine River Lions, Backus Lions, Backus Legion and the Jenkins VFW.
