Michael Ward, a 17-year-old Pequot Lakes High School student, collapsed Tuesday night, June 2, while playing basketball in the school gym and is in critical condition at St. Cloud Hospital.
Superintendent Rick Linnell said the young man was airlifted to St. Cloud,
and the school district's thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.
Linnell declined to identify the student pending approval from his parents.
According to the Pequot Lakes Police Department, Ward, a junior, had gone into
cardiac arrest and a defibrillator carried by police was used to revive him.
He was airlifted by North Air Care to St. Cloud Hospital.
Police were called to the high school at 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, June 2. Officer
Josh Gartner and reserve sergeant JD Berns responded.
Assisting Pequot Lakes police were North Ambulance, Zone 3 First Responders,
Breezy Point and Nisswa police.
