The Pine River-Backus track and field team competed in a pair of meets last week at Pequot Lakes and Pillager. Molly Lundrigan captured the triple jump to lead the Tiger girls at Pequot Lakes and Glen Abbott took the 200-meter dash and the high jump at Pillager.
PR-B competes at Pequot meet
Molly Lundrigan won the triple jump to lead the Tigers to a seventh place finish at Pequot Lakes on April 29. PR-B finished with 33 points while Staples-Motley cruised to the team title with 131 points. Pequot Lakes finished fifth with 59 points.
Lundrigan won the triple jump with a leap of 32' 3". Taylor Sheley took third in the 400-meter dash and the Tiger 4x200-meter relay team of Naomi Anderson, Lundrigan, Sheley and Becky Walker finished third with a time of 1:58.24.
The PR-B boys took eighth place with 22 points. Pierz won the team title with 119.5 points and Pequot Lakes was second with 85 points.
Glen Abbott accounted for all of the Tigers' points by finishing third in the 100-meter dash in 12.21 seconds, second in the long jump with a leap of 19' 5" and second in the high jump with a leap of 5' 10".
Abbott wins twice at Pillager
Glen Abbott captured two events to lead PR-B to a sixth place finish with 34 points at Pillager on May 1. Brainerd easily won the team title with 171 points.
In the 100-meter dash Abbott took third place in 12.95 seconds. Maury Carmona was 13th in 14.08 seconds and Kelly Heino was 26th in 15.36 seconds. Abbott captured the 200-meter dash in 25.29 seconds and Carmona finished eighth in 28.59 seconds.
Abbott won the high jump with a leap of 5' 8". Abbott also finished second in the long jump with a leap of 19' 7.5". Carmona was 19th with a leap of 14' 5". In the discus, Heino was 32nd with a toss of 55' 9".
Pillager piled up 189 points to run away with the girls' title. The Tigers finished seventh with 24 points.
In the 100-meter dash, Molly Lundrigan took fifth place in 14.4 seconds and Trisha Mongan was 13th in 15.59 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, Mongan was 16th in 32.84 seconds and Becky Walker was 18th in 33.03 seconds. In the 400-meter, Taylor Sheley finished fourth with a time of 1:09.97.
Sheley and Kayla Peltier second and third respectively in the high jump with a leap of 4' 6". Mongan took 11th in the long jump with a leap of 13' 2", Walker was 15 with a jump of 12' 8" and Peltier was 23rd with a jump of 11' 1". Lundrigan took fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 31' 1", Walker was ninth with a leap of 26' 11" and Peltier was 11th with a jump of 25' 4". Sheley finished 15th in the discus with a toss of 62' 1" and Lundrigan was 18th with a throw of 58'.
The Pine River-Backus track and field team competes at Walker-Hackensack-Akeley on May 8.
