In the boys' meet, Pierz finished first with 119.5 points, followed by the Patriots with 85. Staples-Motley won the girls' meet with 131 points, followed by Pillager 119.5, Pierz 82.5, Nevis 64 and the Patriots 59.

Pequot Lakes' Clayton Foster won the 800-meter run in 2:05.26 and the 1,600 in 4:42.25. The Patriots' relay winners were the 4x800 relay of Silas Lydeen, Jacob Headlee, Kellen Braren and Adison Runberg in 8:44.03 and the 4x100 relay of Kyle Hart, Tim Geib, T.J. Biley and Tristan Brown in 48.64.

"I'm pleasantly surprised with our performance because I didn't know how we would stack up," Pequot Lakes boys' coach Dave Guenther said, "but we've been finishing higher than expected in all of our meets, so things are falling into place."

Guenther praised some individual efforts.

"Clayton pulled in some points and our long distance runners also did a nice job," he said. "Our 4x100 relay also did a good job as our sprinting has improved this year."

In the girls' meet, the Patriots' Kylie Beltz won the 1,600 run in 5:38.17 while teammate Sydney Johnson was second in 5:50.58.

"Both our girls' and boys' teams did a fantastic job," Patriots' girls' coach Mike Nelson said. "As coaches, we're very proud of them."
