Fifth-grade faces showed everything from "Mmm good" to "I'm not so sure about this" while tasting sprouts at PR-B Elementary Friday.
Sprout tasting was one activity students took part in during a visit from Happy Dancing Turtle representatives. Rye, alfalfa and quinoa were among the six sprouts on the menu.
"They were good troopers," explained Education Coordinator Barb Hines of HDT. "Some were hesitant, but most tried them." The favorites were mung, clover and alfalfa
Hines and HDT employees Quinn Swanson and Stef Bristow brought the sprouts for elementary grades to try. They also talked with students about the value of sprouts as a nutritional snack.
Students also learned about how seeds sprout and grow. In another hands-on project, classes also planted flower seeds to keep or give as gifts.
