Picnic in Pequot

The Governor's Fishing Open-er community picnic starts at 3 p.m. Friday in Trailside Park, in the center of Pequot Lakes.

It is open to the public.

Gov. Tim Pawlenty will arrive at 3:30 p.m. to take in the sights, including Dru's Garden, the Veterans Memorial and the unveiling of Pequot Lakes' Ox Trot ox.

The governor will be interviewed at 5 p.m. at the Official Program tent. There will be activities for all ages, from a DNR fish cleaning demonstration to putt putt golf to a National Guard obstacle course, among many other activities.

The picnic starts at 4:30 p.m. Take your free plate of turkey sandwich, Capt. Ken's Beans, potato salad, and Coca Cola to the dining tent. The chefs plan to serve 3,000, so don't worry if you can't make it until 6 p.m.
