Operation NightCAP (nighttime concentrated alcohol patrol) campaigns in April resulted in 132 DWI arrests - 98 were in the Twin Cities metro area.
Participating officers stopped more than 2,326 vehicles and cited more than 725 drivers for traffic- and equipment-related violations.
Patrols target the 15 deadliest counties for impaired driving, including Crow Wing and Cass. During 2004-2006, these counties accounted for more than half of the state's alcohol-related deaths (272) and serious injuries (762) during 2004-06.
Operation NightCAP participating law enforcement agencies in 2008 include the State Patrol and the police departments of: Breezy Point, Crosslake, Lake Shore, Nisswa, Pequot Lakes and Pine River, Participating sheriff's offices include Crow Wing and Cass.
During March NightCAP efforts, participating officers stopped 2,100 vehicles, resulting in 167 DWIs, and 777 citations for traffic- and equipment-related violations.
NightCAP is funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and is coordinated by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety.
