Lee Donovan Hopkins, 20, of Pine River, was convicted in Cass County District Court, March 9, for a felony count of third-degree burglary.
He received a stay of imposition: he was convicted of the crime, but a sentence was not imposed. The court ordered conditions: he must serve 10 days in jail; be on supervised probation for five years; and pay $1,082 in fines.
A criminal complaint was filed against Hopkins in August of 2008. According to the complaint, Hopkins told law enforcement that he and Ashly Nicole Rudlang had stolen items from a Backus resident's car on April 3, taken the same individual's truck - eventually returning it -- and later tried to break into the residence.
He was initially charged with one count of felony first-degree burglary, one count of felony third-degree burglary and one count of felony theft. He pled innocent to all three charges in November of 2008, before pleading guilty to the single count of third degree burglary in a Feb. 9 plea agreement. The other charges were dismissed.
Ashly Nicole Rudlang, 21, of Pequot Lakes, was convicted in Cass County District Court, April 27, for felony third-degree burglary.
She also received a stay of imposition and the following conditions: five days in jail; five days on electronic home monitoring; supervised probation for five years; and pay $210 in fines.
Like Hopkins, Rudlang was initially charged with one count of felony first-degree burglary, one count of felony third-degree burglary and one county of felony theft.
She pled innocent to all three charges in February 2009, before pleading guilty to a single count of third degree burglary in a March 16 plea agreement. The other charges were dismissed.
