About 125 walkers participated in the 14th annual Hoofin' It For HART companion walk Saturday, May 2, on the Paul Bunyan Trail in Nisswa.
They raised $16,000 for the Heartland Animal Rescue Team in Baxter. Top fundraisers were Terry Fischer, who collected about $2,000 in pledges, and the Cub Food Team, which collected about $1,500 in pledges.
Fischer has collected between $2,000 and $6,000 annually for the past 14 years for the walk.
Before the walk, activities outside the Nisswa Community Center included two dogs being named the King and Queen of HART. The Central Lakes Search and Rescue Team from Clarrisa and the Brainerd Kennel Club gave demonstrations.
Corporate walk sponsors were Lakeland Vet, Mills, Nisswa Tax Service, Staples Vet, Care Vet, Brainerd Animal Hospital, Jan and JoAnne Germann, Gull Lake Glass, Kummet, Larson, Bluth & Company, Lakewood Banks, Kaye Dondelinger, Barb Olson, John and Jeni Berg, Clow Stamping and Crosslake Vet.
In kind donations came from Teddy Bear Sounds, Cub Foods of Brainerd and Baxter, Dave and Mary Rice, The Lodge, Rafferty's Pizza, Minnesota T's, Culligan, Starbuck's, McDonald's, Super One, Famous Dave's, Candy Bouquets, Minuteman Press, Insty Prints and Terry Fischer.
