PR-B track team competes at Pillager

Abbott captures long jump; Lundrigan takes second in triple


The Pine River-Backus track team competed in the John Reimer Invitational track meet in Pillager on April 17. Glen Abbott captured the long jump and Molly Lundrigan took second in the triple jump to lead the Tigers.

The PR-B girls team finished in 10th place with 16 points. Staples-Motley won the team title with 99 points. Pequot Lakes was fourth with 66.5 points.

In the 100-meter dash Lundrigan took sixth place with a time of 14.09 seconds and Trisha Mongan was 24th in 15.38 seconds. In the 200-meter dash Mongan was 19th in 32.42 seconds and Becky Walker was 26th in 33.12 seconds. In the 400-meter Taylor Sheley finished 10th with a time of 1:09, Mongan was 22nd with a time of 1:15 and Kayla Peltier was 29th in 1:22.

The Tiger 4x200 relay team of Lundrigan, Naomi Anderson, Walker and Sheley took fifth with a time of 1:57.

Lundrigan had a leap of 31' 4.5" for second in the triple jump. In the high jump Peltier took fourth with a jump of 4' 6". In the long jump Anderson finished fifth with a leap of 14' 7.5", Mongan was 21st with a jump of 11' 11.5" and Walker was 26th with a jump of 11' 5.75". Anderson was seventh in the shot put with a toss of 28' 8.5" and took ninth in the discuss with a throw of 78' 5.5".

The Tiger boys finished in 11th place with 15 points. Becker piled up 124 points to capture the team title. Pequot Lakes was fifth with 52 points.

In the 100-meter dash Abbott took sixth place with a time of 12.12 seconds, Patrick Rudlang was 28th in 13.32 seconds, Maury Carmona was 32nd in 13.6 seconds and Kelly Heino was 37th in 14.59 seconds. In the 200-meter dash Abbott finished fourth with a time of 24.71 seconds and Carmona was 33rd in 29.09 seconds. In the 400-meter Byron Stark was 22nd with a time of 1:03 and Carmona was 26th in 1:06. In the 1,600-meter run Joe Smith finished eighth with a time of 5:09 and Rudlang was 22nd in 5:50.

Abbott captured the long jump with a leap of 20' 1". In the discuss Stark was 29th with a toss of 65' 11" and Heino was 35th with a toss of 53' 11.5".

"We are a small team again this year," said PR-B coach Tom Demars, "but we are growing. And we are a young team. Naomi, Molly and Taylor are the seniors on the girls team while Maury Carmona is the only senior on the boys team."

The Tigers' season continued this week when they competed at Park Rapids on April 22 and at Walker-Hackensack-Akeley on April 24.
