Huge chunks of ice and 1 1/2 to 2 feet of water prompted the closure of Fritz Loven Park because the road is impassable, the Lake Shore City Council learned Monday.
Mayor John Terwilliger reported water problems on several other city streets.
Public safety
The council approved the 2009 fire contract with the Nisswa Fire Department for $49,527, which includes the cost for the Nisswa Firemen's Relief Association.
The police department reported 82 incidents from Feb. 23 to March 22, including 34 traffic-related incidents and 48 miscellaneous calls.
Traffic-related incidents included 20 miscellaneous traffic warnings, seven speed warnings, four speed citations, one driving after license revocation, one vehicle in the ditch and one car vs. deer crash.
Miscellaneous calls included seven residential alarms, seven disturbance complaints, six suspicious activity, five public assists, four welfare checks, three roadway hazard, three dog complaints, two medicals, one assault investigation, one attempt to locate and one warrant arrest.
Lake Shore police assisted Cass County and Nisswa four times each.
Planning and zoning
The council appointed Peter Mann as an alternate to the Board of Adjustment/Planning and Zoning.
The city issued no land-use permits in February. That compares to one permit issued in February 2008 for a total valuation of $325,000.
So far this year, the city has issued no land-use permits. The first two months of last year, the city had issued three permits for a total valuation of $1,120,000.
In other action Monday, the council:
Learned the city's annual Easter Egg Hunt will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at Fritz Loven Park. The city is accepting donations to cover costs.
Granted annual liquor licenses to Bar Harbor, Lost Lake Lodge, Matty's, Sherwood Forest and Zorbaz, and annual tobacco licenses to Bar Harbor, Matty's and Zorbaz.
Appointed Jim Poston to the Park and Recreation Committee.
Learned the city received a grant to work on controlling curly-leaf pondweed.
Was reminded the Board of Review will convene at 10 a.m. May 1 at city hall.
