Sophomores Michael Ward and Michael Goerges of the Pequot Lakes Patriots were among 14 players named to the 2007-08 Mid-State All Conference team.
Heading the team was the unbeaten Crosby-Ironton Rangers with their entire starting five seniors: Bryce Tesdahl, Trevor Dickie, Derek Swanhorst, Kody Bartels and Joe McLaughlin.
Also named were: from the Staples-Motley Cardinals, senior Caleb Nurnberger and sophomores Jordan Riewer and Derek Wolhowe; from the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines, senior Matt Lepper and junior Donny Tabery; from the Park Rapids Panthers, senior Grant Dierkhisng; and from the Detroit Lakes Lakers, senior Adam Thielen.
Four different players were given All-Conference honorable mention, including junior Jonas Dale of the Patriots; senior Tom Juberian of the Panthers; senior Cory Asfeld of the Wolverines; and senior Chris Gilson of the Lakers.
The loop's most valuable player is Bryce Tesdahl of Crosby-Ironton and the coach of the year is Dave Galovich of the Rangers.
The Patriots, 11-16 overall, were led in scoring, two-point shooting percentage and rebounds by Ward.
Ward scored 412 points (avg. 15.3), had 202 rebounds, including 98 on the offensive board. He made 166 out of 302 shots (55 percent) and had 30 steals, 40 assists and 23 blocked shots.
Goerges led the Patriots in 3-point percentage as he was 39-88 (44.3 percent), scored 254 points (10.6 average), led the team in free throw percentage by making 23 of 28 (82 percent), made 57 of 129 2-point tries (44.2 percent) and added 54 rebounds, 80 assists and 32 steals.
Dale led the team with 81 assists, scored 256 points (9.5 average), had 106 rebounds, had 51 steals, shot 34 percent (29-85) on 3-point shots and 34 percent (61-181) and was 47-91 (52 percent) at the line.
Patriots' Coach Garry Grewe said of his three underclassmen receiving All-Mid-State honors, "We can't vote for our own players, so it is quite a compliment from the other coaches to name Ward, Goerges and Dale, who will all be back next year, to the All-Conference team."
