PLHS art student wins fish decoy contest awards

Kyle Hicks, an 11th- grade art student at Pequot Lakes High School, participated at the Brainerd Sporting Collectible Show and Bob Johnson Invitational Fish Decoy Contest this past Saturday at the Brainerd National Guard Armory.

Kyle placed first in the Junior Division "Folk Art" category. He also competed in the adult or Open Division, where he placed fifth in the "Folk Art Decoy" and fourth in the "Folk Art Trout Decoy."

Kyle is now ranked 10th in the National Fish Decoy Association (www.nfda.tv). He will be busy getting decoys ready for more shows, including the John Jensen National Fish Decoy Competition at Perham on April 12 and 13.

Kyle, along with other members of Dave Guenther's decoy carving students at Pequot Lakes High School Art Department will be competing there.
