Crosslake goes Irish for a day

For the fourth year in a row, Moonlite Bay repeated as winner of the best decorated float at Crosslake's 34th annual St. Patrick's Day parade Saturday, March 15.

Moonlite Bay made the most of the event's theme, Shamrock & Roll in Crosslake, with a huge pot of gold and electric guitar, as well as live rock music.

The family restaurant and bar won $100 in Chamber Bucks.

Second place went to the Govenaires Drum & Bugle Corps of St. Peter, and third place to Big Trout Tavern of Manhattan Beach.

Floats from The Real Estate Company of Crosslake, The Wolfhound of Emily and Zorbaz of Crosslake all received honorable mention.

The KLKS judge's booth, located in front of gold sponsor First Federal Savings Bank, housed all four judges. War veterans Bill Dahlberg, Breezy Point, World War II; Richard Heinzen, Crosslake, World War II; Norman Hunter, Merrifield, World War II and Korean War; and Russ Johnson, Merrifield, Korean War, all judged the parade entries.

WJJY Enthusiasm Winners were Nelson Karate USA; Swanburg Youth Group; Girl Scout Troop #650; and Govenaire's Drum & Bugle Corps of St. Peter.

According to the Brainerd Lakes Chamber, more than 7,500 spectators attended the parade, which featured nearly 75 entries.

Pot O' Gold

Nicole Wolbeck of Pine River and Denise Abear of Merrifield only needed three clues to find the Pot O' Gold.

They found the treasure at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, March 13, at The Old Fire Hall in Crosslake. The gold was hidden on the patio inside the grill.

They won $100 in Chamber Bucks.
