Now that the school year has arrived at March, we start to plan for next fall and the beginning of school. One of the first items on the agenda is kindergarten registration.
Parents who have their first child going to school often have many questions about the process for registering, concerns about whether their child is ready, what skills they need to have, transportation, and a host of other concerns.
To help answer these questions, we have developed with our learning readiness program and kindergarten teachers events that will help you through this important time in your child's life.
In the next few weeks you will receive a letter from Eagle View Elementary School that includes registration materials, a to-do list for parents regarding enrollment and the documents the school will need, information about events coming up where we will provide opportunities to visit the school, pre-school screening, dates when the kindergarten teachers will assess new students, and other information you will need.
If you live in the Pequot Lakes School District, but do not receive a letter by April 18, give us a call. We do not have information for all residents, especially if you have moved here recently.
Our list of items necessary for completing registration includes a copy of the birth certificate, social security number, a completed registration form, and up-to-date record of immunizations received by the student.
We may have some of this information due to family involvement in the Learning Readiness program.
State law requires that every child in Minnesota be screened before entering kindergarten. May 5 is the last time this school year that pre-school screenings will be done for next year.
If you have a child entering kindergarten this fall who has not had a pre-school screening, please call 568-9224 right away to make an appointment. Make sure to send in all necessary registration materials because students are not officially enrolled until all items are received and in the folder.
Return registration materials as soon as possible so we can make appropriate decisions regarding numbers of sections next year. We are anticipating the largest kindergarten class enrollment next fall in the district's history.
In April we will host Learning Readiness classes for parents and students at Eagle View. During the visit families will visit the classrooms and have a question-and-answer time with kindergarten teachers and school staff.
We also plan events later in the month to help students become acquainted with school. Watch for details on these events.
We are looking forward to having your child in school next fall. Pequot Lakes Schools provide full-time kindergarten classes for students and families. If you have any questions about the kindergarten registration procedure, call the Eagle View Elementary School office at 562-6100.
