Oberstar receives national 'Clean Water Champion' award

Eighth District Congressman James Oberstar, chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, received national recognition in Washington, D.C., for his work to protect water resources in the state and across the country.

Oberstar received a "Clean Water Champion" award from the Clean Water Network, a coalition of more than 1,000 local, state and national nonprofit groups working to safeguard clean water.

The Clean Water Network recognized Oberstar for being the lead sponsor of the Clean Water Authority Restoration Act.

The Clean Water Authority Restoration Act is bipartisan legislation that would reaffirm and restore the definition of "waters of the United States" to ensure continued protection for streams, rivers, wetlands, tributaries and all waters that have been covered by the Clean Water Act for the last 30 years.
