Eight area Girl Scout troops from Pequot Lakes, Crosslake and Pine River-Backus participated in Thinking Day 2010 on Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Pequot Lakes American Legion.
The theme was End World Hunger, and scouts brought food and money donations for the Pequot Lakes and Pine River food shelves. They also brought pennies to match their ages (or more) for the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund, which helps start and support Girl Scout troops in low-income countries.
Approximately 60 girls and their families or leaders attended the event.
Each troop chose a country to research and made a display and served a food from that country to their fellow Girl Scouts. They paraded with their country's flags, and made passports that they had stamped as they visited each display.
Following are participating troops and the countries they chose: Pequot Lakes Troop 325, China; Pequot Lakes Troop 26, Italy; Pequot Lakes Troop 185, India; Pequot Lakes Troop 343, Japan; Pequot Lakes Troop 650, Germany; Crosslake Troop 566, France; Pine River-Backus Troop 554, Hong Kong; and Pine River-Backus Troop 140, South Africa.
These Girl Scout troops are in Service Unit 35. Edie Heim is community coordinator for that service unit.
