Alpine Skiing

Savannah Stone won the girlsŐ title at Ski Gull on Friday, Jan. 29.

Pequot Lakes' freshman Savannah Stone dominated the competition to win the girls' alpine skiing title as a member of the Brainerd Warriors on Friday, Jan. 29, at Ski Gull.

Stone's combined time of 46.39 seconds for two runs not only topped the girls' field, but also was the third-fastest time for the boys' competing in the meet.

"She beat all the boys except two (Rian Hutchinson and Ryan Weihemuller), and she skied the exact same course," Warrior coach Jim Ruttger noted in a Brainerd Dispatch story. "She's skiing extremely well right now. She's won every single race she has been at except the 22-team Wild Mountain Invite."

Stone, who recently competed in junior nationals in Colorado, said she liked the fast conditions of the Ski Gull course. She helped the Brainerd girls win with 35 points while a Lakes Area squad was second with 32. The Warriors' Maddy Olson, also a freshman from Pequot Lakes, finished seventh with a time of 66.76.

The Warriors were scheduled to compete at the Section 5A meet at Afton Alps on Tuesday, Feb. 2. The top two teams advance to state.
