Patriots JV team splits two games

Boys' Basketball


The Pequot Lakes Patriots junior varsity boys' basketball team split a pair of games last week.

On Tuesday, Jan. 26, the Patriots led Detroit Lakes 34-22 at the half and eventually won the home game 55-43.

On Saturday, Jan. 30 in Pierz, the boys trailed the Pioneers 33-20 at the half, then came back to tie the contest at 41, but eventually lost 63-49.

Against the Lakers, Brian Craig had 16 points, Riley Johnson 14, including four three-point baskets, and Logan Lange had 10. Others scoring for Pequot Lakes were Steve Duval with five, Nic Olmscheid and Nolan Michaelson each with four, and Connor Leagjeld two.

At Pierz, Craig led the Patriots with 16 points, Lange added 11, Michaelson and Johnson, eight each, Duval four, and Patrick Davich two.

"We played well against the Lakers, and we were hitting our three pointers," Junior varsity coach Brian Lempola said.

Freshmen lose twice

The Pequot Lakes freshmen squad had a tough week - losing to Detroit Lakes 43-28 and Pierz 54-22.

Tyler Tappe had 14 points against Detroit Lakes while Kevin Beltz led the Patriots with seven at Pierz.

"Detroit Lakes had a big team that we couldn't stop," Sergent said. "Pierz had a real nice team. So we didn't have a very good week."
