The Pequot Lakes High School speech team traveled to East Grand Forks on Saturday, Jan. 30, where the team placed fifth of 18 teams.

The Pequot Lakes High School speech team has opened its season and placed fifth Saturday, Jan. 30, against 18 teams in East Grand Forks.

More than half the team came home with a ribbon or medal.

Creative - blue ribbons, Jared Hemming, Marissa Miller and Emily Withers.

Duo - red ribbons, Meghan Sapp/Joe Bocklund.

Drama - blue ribbon, Angela Cole.

Discussion - red ribbon, Natasha Peterson.

Extemporaneous Speaking - third place, Austin Nelson.

Humor - blue ribbon, Marissa Miller; red ribbon, Viktor Scheet.

Original Oratory - blue ribbon, Hannah McQueen.

Prose - blue ribbon, Crystal Wimperis; third place, Ben Sullivan; first place, Angela Cole.

Storytelling - red ribbon, Tom Johnson.

The junior high team will compete Thursday, Feb. 4, in Blackduck, as well as with the high school team Saturday, Feb. 6, at United North Central.
