'All-Time leading scorer' watch: Holm moves up the list

Nathan Holm
Senior Nathan Holm, who reached sixth place on Pine River-Backus' All-Time Boys' basketball scoring list against Pequot Lakes on Dec. 22, moved up three places and now sits alone in third place in Tigers' history.

Holm needed to average nearly 20 points per game to become the all-time leader, a difficult, but achievable task.

However, Holm had a disappointing performance against Cass Lake-Bena on Jan. 10 with only 10 points, putting his career total at 1,056, passing Scott Chitwood (1,048 points in 1985) and moved in fifth place all-time.

Since then, Holm has put together an unbelievable three-game stretch, averaging nearly 33 points a game. He had a strong game against Nevis, Jan. 12, with 22 points.

Then Holm put together his best back-to-back stretch against Verndale, Jan. 17, and Red Lake, Jan. 20, with 38 points in each game.

After the game against Verndale, Holm was still in fifth place all-time with 1,116 points. Against Red Lake, Jan. 20, Holm repeated his 38-point performance and leapt two places on the all-time list, moving into sole possession of third place.
