A temperature that didn't rise above zero degrees Saturday didn't deter snowmobile enthusiasts from spending the afternoon outside.
The Pequot Brush Pilots Snowmobile Club hosted its 14th annual Antique Snowmobile Rendezvous Friday-Sunday, Jan. 18-20, at the Pequot Lakes American Legion and Trailside Park.
Friday, more than 60 sleds, including many antique snowmobiles, were part of a trail ride to the Timberjack Smokehouse and back to the park.
Under sunny skies Saturday, about 100 antique snowmobiles were lined along the Paul Bunyan Trail for spectators to admire. Many participated in drag, oval and reverse oval races, and an obstacle rally in the park.
Craig Swenson of Pequot Lakes brought his 1971 Ski-Daddler made by AMF to the rendezvous. He wore the matching snowsuit and helmet that came with the sled when he bought it three years ago, after it had sat in a barn for more than 20 years.
"It's a passion; they're just fun," Swenson said of snowmobiles.
He got his first sled, a 1975 Polaris TX, at age 12.
"And I've been addicted ever since," he said, noting he has several old sleds.
"There's really something about the older style machines and how they were built to last."
From the turnout at Saturday's antique show, many others share those thoughts.
