Volleyball: Two Tigers, two Patriots named to all-area team
The Patriot and Tiger volleyball teams each had two athletes named to the 2017 Brainerd Dispatch All-Area Volleyball Team.
After aiding their team to a state tournament appearance, PR-B juniors Alyssa Semmler and Bailey Wynn earned spots on the all-area team to go along with All-Northland Conference honors.
Semmler finished the year with 419 kills, 86 digs and 110 blocks. Wynn tallied 321 kills 359 digs, 75 blocks and 38 ace serves.
Patriot all-conference athletes Clare Ganley and Karli Skog also picked up all-area team honors. Ganley had 297 kills on the season along with 376 digs, 12 blocks and 38 ace serves. Skog tallied 160 kills, 234 digs and 439 set assists. She also had 43 blocks and 33 ace serves.
Both Ganley and Skog also earned Academic All-State honors.
In addition to those four, six other area athletes - four Patriots and two Tigers - earn an all-area honorable mention.
Earning honorable mentions for the Tigers were Rylie Hirschey and Gabby Rainwater. Hirschey led the team with 849 set assists to go along with her 227 digs, 30 kills, 28 blocks and 28 ace serves while Rainwater had 212 kills, 347 digs, 38 blocks and 24 ace serves.
For the Patriots, Sannah Lohmiller, Britt Kratochvil, Mariah Rickard and Addie Hubbard earned honorable mentions.
Lohmiller had 64 kills, 225 digs, 339 set assists, 13 blocks and 40 ace serves for the Patriots. Kratochvil had 220 kills on the season along with 363 digs, 23 blocks and 32 ace serves.
Rickard finished with 398 digs and 44 ace serves, while Hubbard had 161 kills, 20 digs and 52 blocks.
Players for the all-area team are nominated by head coaches and selected by the Dispatch sports committee.
