The Pequot Lakes Patriots girls won the Section 8-2A True Team track and field title behind wins from Grace McGuire, Cassidy Chaney and Adelaide Hubbard on Tuesday, May 8, at Fergus Falls.

McGuire won the 400-meter dash with teammate Lydia Hubbard finishing second. Chaney won the 800 and Adelaide Hubbard the triple jump to help Pequot Lakes advance to the state True Team meet, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 18-19, in Stillwater.

In boys competition, Pequot Lakes' Reid Pierzinski won the 400-meter dash, 110 and 300 hurdles and the triple jump while teammate Jayden Benzick won the pole vault title to help the Patriots place fifth.

"Overall the guys turned in some good performances, especially with Reid (Pierzinski) running the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and the open 400," said Pequot Lakes boys coach Dave Guenter. "Brooks Anderson and Robbie Hendrickson have been dealing with injuries, but turned in the respectful performances in the 4x400, hurdles and the open 400. Our long distance and middle distance guy are coming along. Ethan Johnson is doing a nice job, and Sam Person just keeps getting better. It will be exciting if we can keep everyone healthy between now through Mid-State Conference and Subsection 6A meets."
