Area Softball: Oliver pitches Tigers past Huskies

PINE RIVER—Jada Oliver recorded three strikeouts and walked one as the Pine River-Backus Tigers won 11-1 over the Pillager Huskies in a non-conference game Friday.

Lindsey Tulenchik went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs and Danielle Burgoyne went 3-for-3 and scored three runs with two RBIs for the 3-0 Tigers.

Jenna Woidyla and Sam Macheel each doubled for the Pillager Huskies.

Little Falls splits

DETROIT LAKES—Kali Mammenga's home run helped lead the Little Falls Flyers to a 4-1 win over the Detroit Lakes Lakers in Game One at the Detroit Lakes tournament Friday.

The Flyers fell 4-0 to Thief River Falls in Game Two.

PIERZ—Emily Daiker's two-run homer and three RBIs secured a 9-4 win for the Pierz Pioneers over the St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders Friday.

Terri Tretter of the Pioneers also had two RBIs while Brittney Boser pitched seven innings with three strikeouts.

VERNDALE—Ari Merta smashed a home-run as the Pequot Lakes Patriots beat the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders 14-1 in a non-conference matchup Friday.

Kenzie Nelson, Claire Ganley, Mariah Rickard and Cora Brown had two hits apiece for the Patriots.

Pitcher Morgan Eckes recorded five strikeouts and Bre Sewall added a double to help the Patriots take home a victory.
