Backus DNR forestry office is furbearer, wolf registration station

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds northwestern Minnesota fur trappers and wolf hunters to register their pelts in November and December at one of several furbearer registration stations.

At the following locations, furbearers (all species) may be registered between noon and 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6. Wolf, bobcat and otter only registration will be from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7.

• Backus DNR forestry office, 4391 State Highway 371, 218-947-3232.

Registration is also available by appointment throughout the furbearer season at any of the DNR area wildlife offices. Trappers and wolf hunters must call ahead to make an appointment.

Pelts must be removed from the carcass and thawed for inspection purposes. The entire carcass of bobcats and wolves, and the heads of each pine marten and fisher, must be presented at the time of registration.
