Donation enables PAL to create birdscaping program

Bird watching and feeding is the second largest recreational activity in the United States. Thanks to an anonymous donor, $2,000 has been “gifted” to the PAL Foundation of Crosslake to start a ‘birdscaping’ program, within the park, at the Community Center. During the upcoming winter season, you will be able to watch birds as they feast on cuisine, from the comforts of the library. The feeders are environmentally friendly and will be maintained on a weekly basis. Regular maintenance of the feeders with fresh, high quality bird seed/products is known to increase both the number and variety of colorful songbirds; creating a “songbird sanctuary.”

To enhance your bird watching experience, a posting board (located in the library) will display and identify possible bird sightings. As the seasons change, so do the avian visitors to the feeders. Come spring, the number and types of feeders will increase to attract more activity particularly when walking through the the Nordic Ridge Recreation Area located beyond the Community Center. The trails, combined with the ‘birdscaping’ program, will create a new and exciting experience for all; thus becoming a popular destination within our community.

The PAL Foundation (Parks and Library) feels blessed to receive the generous donation which spear-headed this program, however, funding will be necessary for both the expansion phase and the weekly maintenance. To show your support, we encourage individuals to consider sponsoring a single month of the service plan. Also, “sponsorship” would make an excellent Christmas present or memorial gift for this season. Contact the Community Center at 218-692-4271 for more information.
