Despite being down for most of the first half, the Pequot Lakes football team persevered thanks to stifling defense and several takeaways to beat the Fergus Falls Otters 27-14 on Friday, Sept. 7.
"We did great," senior Dylin Ackerman said. "We were down 14-0, but we knew we couldn't give up. They are a great team, but we came out after halftime and had the intensity from all of the interceptions."
Sophomore Bode Magnuson found the end zone for three of the team's four scores. With the Patriots down 14-0, he returned a kickoff 81 yards to get his team on the board in the second quarter. Four minutes late, he caught a quick slant pass from quarterback Cale Wolf and marched 71 yards for the score.
With his team up by six in the final minutes of the game, Magnuson intercepted a pass and returned roughly 30 yards to seal a victory.
The team's other score came from defensive back James Brennan, who returned an interception 83 yards for a score in the third quarter.
The Patriots move to 2-0 on the season.
