Girls Basketball: 5 schools put 2 players on all-area team

Five area teams have the distinction of landing two players on this year's Brainerd Dispatch All-Area Girls Basketball Team.

Mid-State Conference teams Aitkin, Crosby-Ironton and Pequot Lakes all scored two spots, including conference MVP and Dispatch Player of the Year Olivia Lane.

Pine River-Backus and Brainerd also rostered two players on this year's team.

Players for the all-area team are nominated by their coaches and then selected by the Dispatch Sports Staff.

All-area team

Maggi Fellerman, Aitkin

Senior, forward/center

All-Mid State Conference player finished with 330 points (12.5 points per game), 201 rebounds (7.6), 60 assists (2.3), 43 steals (1.7) and 27 blocked shots.

She shot 43 percent (131-302) from the field, 27 percent (12-44) from 3-point and 72 percent (52-72) from the line.

Kaija Davies, Aitkin

Junior, forward/center

All-Mid State Conference player finished with 353 points (12.8 points per game), 224 rebounds (8.1), 46 assists (1.7), 58 steals (2.1) and 20 blocked shots. She shot 36 percent (115-313) from the field, 25 percent (19-75) from 3-point and 63 percent (97-152) from the line.

Regan McElfresh, Brainerd

My areas of emphasis includes local high school sports, Central Lakes College, the lakes area golf mecca and once a year I dabble in the NHRA when the Lucas Oil Nationals come to Brainerd International Raceway.
