Boys basketball: Tigers take third at Fornshell - Ackerman earns all-tournament honors

Nick Ackerman registered 23 points to earn all-tournament honors and lead the Pine River-Backus Tigers to a 65-33 victory over Isle in the third-place game of the Fornshell Classic on Friday, Dec. 22.

Torry Hirschey posted 14 points for the Tigers.

Ackerman scored a team-high 22 points and six rebounds, but the Tigers fell to the Pillager Huskies 71-57 in the first round of the Fornshell Classic Thursday, Dec. 21.

Hirschey was next for the Tigers with 17 points and four blocks for a Tigers team that shot 30.3 percent from the field.

Ackerman tallied 22 points for the Pine River-Backus Tigers who were defeated 57-49 by the Sebeka Trojans in non-conference play Tuesday, Dec. 19.

Hirschey added 17 points for the Tigers who led 33-27 at halftime, but were outscored 30-16 in the second half.
