Boys Basketball: Tigers win two of three

Nick Ackerman averaged 22.3 points across three games as the Pine River-Backus Tiger boys basketball team picked up two victories in three attempts last week.

PR-B 78, LaPorte 37

Ackerman recorded 27 points for the Tigers as the Tigers topped the Laporte Wildcats 78-37 Friday, Dec. 15. He also pulled down 11 rebounds and six steals.

Torrey Hirschey was right behind him, scoring 26 points and tallying 11 rebounds for a Tigers team that had 42 rebounds and 19 steals.

Nathan Wosmek had 11 points for PR-B

Ackerman pumped in 20 points, but the Pine River-Backus Tigers fell 96-64 to the Cass Lake-Bena Panthers in a Northland Conference game Thursday, Dec. 14.

Brady Raph scored 16 points and Torry Hirschey 14 for the Tigers, but the Panthers drained 13 3-pointers and forced 22 PR-B turnovers.

Ackermann's 25 points led the Tigers once again on Tuesday, Dec. 12, in a 58-48 Northland Conference victory to the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Wolves. He also had four assists and four steals.

Hirschey added 15 points, four steals and four blocks, while Brady Raph pitched in with 14 points and Nate Wosmek grabbed eight rebounds.
