Boys basketball: Tigers fall to Rangers in season opener

Torry Hirschey had 23 points and Nick Ackerman chipped in with 18, but the Pine River-Backus Tiger boys basketball team kicked off the 2017-2018 season with a 67-66 loss to Crosby-Ironton on Friday, Dec. 1.

The Tigers contended with the Rangers throughout the game and went into halftime with the score tied at 30. The Tigers also finished the game leading their opponents in every statistical category but points, recording three more free throws, five more rebounds and two more blocks than Crosby-Ironton.

Brady Raph scored 15 points for a Tiger team that shot 50 percent from the field.
