Amateur Baseball: Nisswa, Fort win playoff opener

Nisswa 11, Aitkin 7

NISSWA—Jeremiah Piepkorn went 3-4 with a double and Tory Miller ripped a three-run double for the top-seeded Nisswa Lightning who defeated the No. 4 Aitkin Steam 11-7 in the opening round of the North Division playoffs Friday.

Drew Boland, Aaron Jenkins and Tyler Wittwer also doubled for the Lightning.

Chris Pederson earned the win pitching three plus innings of relief. Miller pitched the final two innings striking out five and allowing one hit to earn a save.

Sam Peterson went 2-4 with a double, home run, and two RBIs to lead Aitkin. Drew Nordean and Jack Kuppich doubled, while finishing 3-4 and 2-4 respectively, and Jake Hyytinen contributed a multiple-hit game.

Fort Ripley 16, Cuyuna Range 2

FORT RIPLEY—Nick Jelacie finished 4-4 with a home run, two RBIs and scored five times to lead the No. 2 Fort Ripley Rebels past the No. 3 Cuyuna Range Miners 16-2 in seven innings in the opening round of the North Division playoffs Saturday.

Zach Heidmann went 3-4 with a pair of doubles, four RBIs and two stolen bases. The Rebels outhit the Miners 16-2 and received additional multi-hit performances from Rhett Williamson, Jason Sather and Mac Brink.

Brink earned the win as he struck out seven and allowed just one hit and one run over six innings.

Dillon Solid and Brady Houle each had a hit and an RBI for Cuyuna Range.

Lastrup 8, Bulldogs 1

PIERZ—Brad Meyer allowed one unearned run while striking out seven and giving up seven scattered hits to pitch a complete game for the top-seeded Lastrup Lakers, who opened the East Division playoffs with an 8-1 win over the No. 4 Pierz Bulldogs Friday.

Meyer also went 2-3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Paul Herman was 3-5 and seven other Lakers had hits, including a double by Mitch Woitalla.

Teddy Dehler went 2-4 with a double to lead the Bulldogs.

Buckman 7, Brewers 2

BUCKMAN—Shawn Lanners belted a go-ahead, two-run homer in the sixth inning for the second-seeded Buckman Billygoats in a 7-2 victory over the No. 3 Pierz Brewers Saturday in the opening round of the East Division playoffs.

Lanners also earned the win in relief. He struck out seven and allowed one hit and one run over 3 2/3 innings.

Matt Tautges led Buckman with three hits, including a double and a triple, and Noah Boser doubled.

Dylan Kummet and Logan Meyer had two hits each for the Brewers.
