Patriot runners host homecoming youth race

The Pequot Lakes varsity cross-country team is sponsoring a free fun-run race for Pequot Lakes fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders on Monday, Oct. 2, right after school on the south practice fields behind the high school.

Students will compete as an individual and as a representative of your homeroom to see what it would be like to become part of the Pequot Lakes cross-country team.

The event will begin with registration at 3:15 p.m., followed by fourth-grade girls running their half-mile race at 3:45 p.m. and boys racing 10 minutes later.

Fifth-graders will run a three-fourth-mile race with girls starting at 4:05 p.m. and boys starting at 4:15 p.m.

The sixth-grade races will be a full mile, with girls running at 4:25 p.m and boys beginning at 4:35 p.m.

Awards will be handed out around 5 p.m. and will be given to first- through 10th-place finishers in each grade.

The winning homeroom will receive a traveling trophy to display in their room and root beer floats.

A team consists of five or more runners. In cross-country the scoring is indicated by the placing of the top five runners from your team, a sixth runner will be needed in case of a tie breaker. The lowest score of adding up the top five places from a given homeroom is the team winner.

Runners are encouraged to wear Patriot gear and comfortable running shoes.
