Despite finishing with more errors and fewer hits than the Blackduck Drakes Thursday, April 13, the Pine River-Backus Tigers managed to take advantage of walks and errors by the Drakes to take the win 9-8 in the seventh inning.

Miah Hansen pitched all seven innings for 12 strikeouts, two walks, and seven hits. The Tigers also struck out 12 times but they walked 10 times and finished with five hits. The Drakes got on the board first with one run in the top of the first inning, and the Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the second inning with one run.

The Drakes added another run in the top of the third and the Tigers took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third. In the top of the fifth the Drakes scored four runs off three hits including a three run home run to make the score 3-6.

The Tigers narrowed the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and tied it 6-6 with one run in the bottom of the sixth. The Drakes then scored two runs in the top of the seventh off one hit, one walk and three errors leaving the Tigers down 6-8 going into the bottom of the seventh.

Brandi McAllister came up to bat first for the Tigers in the bottom of the seventh and got on base with a single. Jada Olivier came next with a walk, the third batter struck out, and the fourth batter, Emma Barchus, also struck out but the Drakes' catcher dropped the third strike advancing McAllister home and Olivier to third.

Olivier scored two pitches later on a wild pitch to tie the game 8-8. Lindsey Tulenchik got on base on a single, stole second on the next pitch, and ended up scoring the winning run as the Drakes overthrew second and third and Tulenchik slid in under the tag at home.

The Tigers are 3-0, and are next scheduled to host the Red Lake Warriors Thursday, April 20, travel to Remer to take on the Eagles Friday, April 21, and participate in the annual Park Rapids Softball Tournament Saturday, April 22.
