Alyssa Semmler stepped up with 21 points to lead the Pine River-Backus Tigers to their first win of the season 54-52 over the Park Rapids Panthers Friday, Dec. 9.

“The start of the season was a little rough,” senior Shelby Adkins said. “Schwegel always makes it so our first five games are our toughest. Despite our two losses already, I knew we could get that win last Friday.

“We all put our hearts into that game and I believe that is what brought us to the win. I'm not sure what the rest of the season has in store for us, but I do know it will be good. I have goals for our team as a whole and I know with hard work we can reach them.”

Adkins aided the Tigers with eight points. Also aiding the Tigers was Gabby Rainwater with nine points and 10 rebounds.

PR-B is 1-2 overall.

The Tigers are next scheduled to host the Cass Lake-Bena Panthers Thursday, Dec. 15 and travel to play the Laporte Wildcats Friday, Dec. 16.
