The Pequot Lakes girls basketball team advances to the Section 7AA finals after a 68-51 victory over International Falls on Thursday, March 10, in Duluth.

After falling behind 5-1 in the opening minutes, the Patriots regained the lead and never gave it up.

"We had a slow start," coach Jon Dale said. "Probably not our best, but we extended the lead pretty big at one point ... Even though it wasn't our best, we still had enough to pull it off."

Senior guard Haley Wiebolt led the team with 20 points.

"I think we played pretty well, but I think we can play a lot better. We need to come out ready to play on Saturday," Dale said.

The Patriots will face Esko, who defeated Mesabi East 67-43 Thursday, on Saturday, March 12, back in Duluth.

"We are going to have to bring our A-game," Dale said. "We have been focusing on Esko for 10 days."
