Golf leagues-Aug. 28, 2014

Whitefish Men's League

Scott Thompson shot a 158 to capture the Whitefish Men's League 36-hole club championship Aug. 12-13.

In the first flight, Bob Beatty was the low net shooting a 140 with Don Skalman in second (143) and Steve Ogren in third (144).

Mike Carnahan was the second flight low net winner with a 133. Terry Stansfield's 135 was second and Greg Jorvig's 138 third.

Steve Holubar captured the low net third flight title with a 137. John Larsen was second with a 139 and Jim McKeehen shot 142 for third.

Whitefish Women

Joi Brandt, Barb Hanson, Mary Ann Mahler and Kay Olson captured the step-aside scramble Aug. 20 during the Ozgusta themed Women of Whitefish event at Whitefish Golf Club.

Susan Beilfuss, Cheryl Bontrager, Patti Erickson and Anne Gazda placed second. Vicki Dypwick, Connie Foster, Diane Giefer and Nancy Schmidt placed third.

The three top teams all tied with 38 and needed six holes to break the tie.

Sue Loechler, Nancy Einan, Gini Moberg and Maxine Riches placed fourth.

The three teams that tied for fifth were: Mary Lou Claypatch, Cathie Leiendecker-Foster, Carol Lovro and Barb Smith; Sherrie Adam, Kathy Keeling, Cathy Munger and Susan Swanson; Marguerite Baker, Mary K. Erickson, Deanna Frandsen and Roxanne Thompson.

Closest to the pin was Hanson and Munger with Dypwick and Hanson getting closest in two shots. Putting contest winners were Kathy Larson, Faye Owen and Mimi Swanson. Driving contest winners were Swanson, Barb Holubar and Nancy Schmidt. Linda Carpenter, Ruth Kuklow and Carol Lovro were chipping contest winners.

Breezy Point Men's League

Billy's 2 topped Dockside 10.5-9.5 Aug. 21 to head into the final week of the Breezy Point Resort Men's League with a 0.5-point lead. Dirt Busters, which tied Antlers 10-10, is second and Double Trouble, which beat Jon & Dave 11-9, is in third.

Breezy Point Women's League

Judi Marovec shot a 29 for the low net and Kathy McTague needed just 15 putts to win the low putts during the Aug. 21 Breezy Point Resort Women's League event.

Ellen Koshenia's 33 was the second-place low net. Verna Miller and Martha Polsfuss tied for third with 34s and Sandy O'Day shot a 36 for fourth place.

Judy Thomas used just 16 putts to place second in the low putts category. Chris Bjornson, Miller and Polsfuss tied for third with 17 putts and Sue Marolais, Janie Pommer and Marovec tied for fourth with 18 putts.

Crosswoods Men's League

Jay Wiltrout was player of the day Aug. 19 with a low net 62. He had the individual low net on the back nine with 27, while Jim Mateyka took that honor on the front nine with 29. Game of the day was "3 best balls of 4."

The team of Dale Erickson, Wiltrout, Mateyka and Larry Koenig (blind draw) took first on both the front and back nines. Second-place teams were Koenig, Bob Eng, Don Miller and Doug Steck on the front nine, and Dan Schlapkohl, Terry Nygaard, Jim Weber and Gary Villella on the back nine.

Villella and Jay Frane were closest to the pin; Steck and Pat McAlpine had the longest putts; and Mateyka, Gary Munger and Wiltrout all had chip-in birdies.

Crosswoods Women 9-Hole

Game of the day Aug. 13 was "pink ball," and only one team finished with a pink ball. The first-place team included Harriet Smith, Dee Dee Johnson, Thelma Williams and Jane Draheim.

Low net of the day went to Judy Hein with 27. Tracy Nelson had two birdies and Judy Nicholas had one birdie.

Crosswoods Women 18-Hole

Game of the day Aug. 11 was "pink ball." The first-place team included Ardis Thompson, Renee Aden and Rose Ann Stans. Second place went to Joey Hodgeson, Michele Kohler and Nancy Meinke.

Sandy Melberg had the low net for the day at 68. Beryl Roe had a birdie on 10.

Grand View Lodge outing

Lisa Omodt, Susan Mans, Carrie Spitzack and Lowell Hillbrands shot a 35 to win the Aug. 19 Guest Night Outing at The Preserve at Grand View Lodge.

Don King, Betty Kackman and Tom and Diane Aydt shot a 36 to tie for second place the the teams of Katie Wallace, Candace Prigge, Stephanie Haiden and John Rappath and the team of John Oswald, Judi Moravec and Jim and Kathy McTagne.

Doug and Vicki Dypwick teamed with Gene and Carol Lovro to place third with a 37.

Marlene Perkins, Val Lueck and Peg and Bob Beck placed fourth.

Bruce Brockhoff and Wallace made the longest putts and Hillbrands and Lovro were closest to the pins.

There will be a Sept. 2 Women's Outing and a Sept. 9 Coed Outing both at The Pines to finish out the season.

Chix with Stix

Diane Dahl scored a 55 to win the Aug. 21 pick three game at The Pines.

Susan Rogers placed second with a 56 and Debbie Briggs was third with a 58.

Briggs drained the longest putt and Rose Johnson was closest to the pin.

Dahl had two chip ins.

Thursday's Chix with Stix will be at The Pines. Sept. 4 play will be at The Preserve.

During an Aug. 14 road Trip to Deacon's Lodge in Breezy Point, Sandy Lindberg shot a 29 to win the game of 3s.

Candace Prigge and Barb Wenschlag tied for second with 32s. Joni Meyer's 36 was good for third.

Wenschlag hit the longest putt and Prigge was closests to the pin.


Eric Pitzl, Pequot Lakes, aced the 157-yard 15th hole at Eagle's Landing Aug. 13 with a pitching wedge.
