Letter to the Editor: Chief Eric Klang's bid for sheriff
Pequot Lakes Police Chief Eric Klang has served in law enforcement for a total of 25 years - as police chief since 2011 and as county sheriff from 2003-07. I feel his background and training, communication skills and hands-on experience have prepared him to represent Crow Wing County as its sheriff.
Klang earned a bachelor's degree from Bellevue University in Nebraska and an associate degree in law enforcement from Hibbing Community College. Klang is also a graduate from the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. The 11-week program provided him with the latest law enforcement training in current trends, philosophies and new techniques.
Klang lost the primary election to Crow Wing County Sheriff's Deputy Pat Pickar and
Capt. Scott Goddard. Both are popular and dedicated officers; however, neither has the background and training necessary.
There is a simple solution to a complex problem - all three should've appeared on the Nov. 6 ballot.
