PR-B honors, learns about MLK
Pine River-Backus Schools will be holding classes on Martin Luther King Day with programming to teach the community and students about MLK’s legacy.
Class on Monday, Jan. 15 will be focused on learning about King and what he stood for. The highlight of the day will be a presentation by Hamline University Professor Jason Sole, author of “Prison to PhD” from 1:30 to 3 p.m.. The presentation concludes a day of learning, which will include a 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. viewing of the movie “42,” the biography of Jackie Robinson. Students will break into specialized sessions from 11:05-12:25 p.m. that will include peer discussion on social media, maintaining a positive school, goal-setting and many other topics.
A session for grades six through 12 will also include guest speaker State Representative Sandy Layman (R-Cohasset) who will speak on topics possibly including women in politics and Martha King’s dream. The fifth-grade choir, high school band and high school choirs will perform from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
