Have you ever been in total silence?

Email

Throughout our wonderful travels, my wife and I visited the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. You could go down a elevator or walk the trail into the cave; it was all downhill.

Viewing the fabulous scenery going down and then getting to the bottom and viewing the Chapel and other rooms, the guide told all of us to get near a hand rail so he could turn off the lights. That is one moment in a person’s life when it is as black dark and as absolute silence you will ever witness.

For over three years now we have had absolute silence from Washington, D.C. The leader of our country cast his stamp on Social Security for Seniors and the Congress — yes, Republicans and Democrats and Independents — just sat and said “tough.”  The absolute word which will not be heard if you turn the plate over is “no cutting on any other projects” — ie. Medicaid for millions of illegal immigrants from many different countries. A person can come to Anchorage under hardship rules and get more money than my wife and I get on S.S., plus food and a place to live.

Every time I leave the house, I see projects that I believe we all could live without. How often have I been able to spend $900 for a room to sleep in for a night. Total ignorance. There might be some hope; but not from the present administration. With the average Social Security check being some where in the $800 range, doesn’t buy a very nice place to live, let alone buy food which I believe has risen in the area of 20 percent in the last 2 years. Talking does not solve any problems when you have never had a job to understand what it’s like. Vote-Vote-Vote.
