Letter to the Editor: Pequot Lakes Library book explains past extinctions
In Pete Abler's Sept. 21 column "Inspiration" on the opinion page, he wonders about the tipping point in global climate change and asks, "I don't know how far back this game goes, but as far as I can tell the score is still Mother Nature batting 1.000, mankind .000!"
There is a new book at the Pequot Lakes Public Library that explores that very topic of just how far back and how many past extinctions have occurred on planet Earth. The book "The Ends of The World: Volcanic Apocalypses, Lethal Oceans and Our Quest to Understand Earth's Past Mass Extinctions" was published in 2017 and written by Peter Brannen.
It makes for very interesting reading.
