Road milling to begin on 371 project between Backus and Hackensack

The road will still be an active construction site during this milling process and the detour West of 371 will remain open. The road will remain closed to all but local traffic, and will remain an active construction area.

Minnesota Department of Transportation Project Supervisor Kirk Allen announced Tuesday, Sept. 11 that the Highway 371 construction project between Backus and Hackensack will move on to the next stage of construction, milling, on Wednesday, Sept. 12.

During this time the surface of the road will be ground off to make a surface to which the new layer can adhere. The milling work is expected to continue through the following week.

The road will still be an active construction site during this milling process and the detour West of 371 will remain open.

"While this is taking place, local traffic will have to drive on a rough surface that will no longer have striping to define the center line or edge lines," Allen said. "There will also be heavy equipment, trucks and workers throughout the project. The road will remain closed, and will remain an active construction area. Extreme caution should be taken if you must navigate through the project — for both your safety and the safety of the contractor's crews."
