Virginia M. Wenzel

Virginia M. Wenzel, 78-year-old resident of Cambridge, MN passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at her home in Cambridge, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at St. James Catholic Church in Randall, MN with Father Tim Wenzel officiating. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Little Falls, MN. A visitation will be held from 4-7 P.M. on Friday and from 10-11 A.M. on Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Randall, MN. A parish prayer service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday evening at the Church. Funeral arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN.

Virginia Mary (Gigi) Wenzel was born on January 9, 1939, in Darling Township, on the family farm, the 6th of 13 children born to Anthony and Anna (Danko) Wenzel and baptized at St. James Catholic Church in Randall, MN. Virginia graduated from St. Francis High School in 1956. She joined the Franciscan Sisters in Little Falls and worked as a cook and Food Service Supervisor. With permission from the Pope, she left the Convent in 1970 and was immediately hired as a Director of Dietary Services at the Monticello-Big Lake Hospital.

Virginia later pursued her higher education and graduated in May 1979 from the University of Wisconsin, Stout, where she earned a Master of Science Degree in Food Science and Nutrition, with minors in Business Administration and Psychology. While in Graduate School, she authored a Thesis, "Health Professionals' Perceptions of the Feeding Problems of Stroke Patients." She received an Internship at the Mayo Clinic and Rochester Methodist Hospital. Virginia became a registered and licensed dietitian and a member of the American Dietetic Association. Her career as a registered and licensed dietitian was in health care.

Dedication, hospitality, generosity, and compassion for others were always her hallmark. Virginia traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad. She was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Cambridge, MN. Virginia also enjoyed long walks, reading, photography and entertaining family and friends. She lived a happy and full life and was truly loved and will be greatly missed by many family and friends.

Virginia is survived by her siblings; Beverly LeMieur of Little Falls, MN. Thomas (Joy) Wenzel of Little Falls, MN, Fr. Tim Wenzel of Randall, MN, Tony (Judy) Wenzel of Randall, MN, Kathryn (Danny) Knight of Olivia, MN, Steve Wenzel of Little Falls, MN, Mike Wenzel of Roseville, MN, Jerry (Kathy) Wenzel of Randall, MN, Anne (Ron) Bratton of Rochester, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; Anthony and Anna Wenzel; infant brother, Neil Wenzel; brothers, Larry Wenzel and Kenny Wenzel; brother-in-law, Kenneth LeMieur and sister-in-law, Jeanette Wenzel.
