Final Highway 371 Backus to Hackensack culvert expected to be complete Saturday, Sept. 8

MnDOT Project Supervisor Kirk Allen announced by email the morning of Sept. 7 that the culvert replacement along Highway 371 from Backus to Hackensack will possibly be complete Saturday, Sept. 8, but the closure and detour will still be in place until more work is finished.

The email said that crews were expected to finish culverts C and E in the early afternoon of Sept. 7. Another crew was scheduled to start construction on the final culvert, culvert F approximately noon on Sept. 7. Construction on culvert F was estimated to be complete the afternoon of Saturday, Sept. 8.

As they are completed, the culverts have been covered over to allow passage of local traffic only, such as homeowners along the route. The construction zone will remain in place as the road surface is ground down in preparation for resurfacing of the highway from Backus to Hackensack.

"While this is taking place, local traffic will have to drive on a rough surface that will no longer have striping to define the center line or edge lines," Allen said. "There will also be heavy equipment, trucks and workers throughout the project. The road will remain closed, and will remain an active construction area. Extreme caution should be taken if you must navigate through the project — for both your safety and the safety of the contractor's crews."
