Four Pequot Lakes High School students recently attended the week-long Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Camp at the University of Minnesota-Crookston campus.

The four students sponsored by Central Lakes Rotary Club were Thomas Brewer, Karlie Trottier, Savannah Ellison and Alexis Brewer. Central Lakes Rotarian Danny Pavek served as a RYLA Camp facilitator.

These students were part of a select group of 150 students from Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin and Ontario, Canada, all sponsored by Rotary Clubs in their area.

RYLA Camp is designed to help students who are serious about building their leadership skills, and they are given the tools that will help them achieve personal growth and creativity, as well as helping others through humanitarian programs and projects.

During camp, the students worked at a large food bank, heard a presentation by Shelter Box USA and learned about communication and diversity.

The students also learned much about the scope of Rotary International and its commitment to Service Above Self.

Central Lakes Rotary meets at 7 a.m. Tuesdays in the Brenny Reception Room in Pequot Lakes for a breakfast meeting and program. For more information, visit the Central Lakes Rotary Club website or contact club secretary Diane Collins at 218-568-6027.
