For the second year, Ennenga's Garden Center in Jenkins and Eagle View Elementary School paired together to teach children about plants, and to make Mother's Day gifts.

Second-graders from Pequot Lakes visited Ennenga's on Thursday, April 9, to color personalized cards and plant small planters with three flowering plants that will be much bigger by Mother's Day, May 10.

In addition, the green thumb experience was part of a Minnesota state standard compatible lesson on growing plants, hence making the experience educational and fun.

Students were bused to the garden center in three groups during different times in the morning. Those groups were separated into three groups with one group coloring cards, one group planting plants and another group touring the greenhouse and learning about the growing process.

The plants they potted will stay at the greenhouse until May 10, at which time the tiny specimens will have grown to fill out the pots.
